Scenic Tours to see the summit of Cader Idris
We became the proud owners of Pennant Farm on 16th April 2007. It had always been Ken's dream of farming this land to the summit of Cader Idris and his dream became reality on Boxing Day 2006 when he had a phone call from its previous owner asking whether there was any interest. Life has never been quite the same. Leaving the family home - Maes y Wennol - and moving to Pennant farmhouse was a culture shock but over time, it has become our wonderful family home.
Working in this environment is a truly inspiring but challenging way of life. Understanding the natural world is an important part of farming, and Indeed, we are at its mercy in many ways. I love having an understanding of foxes, badgers hares, and the red kites which all live nearby, and even the way the sea gulls dance on the ground mimicking the tide coming in in order to tempt the worms to come out of hiding!
The breathtaking views of the Dysynni Valley especially from the steep crags of the Cader ranges definitely eases the pressures of every day life, working the land. The passion for this work is layered deep in Ken's soul, a legacy passed down through two generations. The pleasures and hardships not really changed over the years. However, the role of the farmer's wife may have changed slightly!
The strength of our existence is deeply rooted in our language, culture and heritage, and to ensure that our communities in rural Wales continue to blossom, we have to thrive as farmers so that our wonderful highland farms remain alive.
Gathering the sheep is predominantly done on foot with a good team of shepherds and their sheepdogs. I think the work of hill farmers, operating on the slimmest of margins, is so important, and needs to be marketed at every opportunity. This work of maintaining this wonderful land is imperative in order for the mountains to be enjoyed by millions of welcome tourists. Indeed, the farming family plays an important role in order for the uplands to remain vibrant.
Please do not hesitate to call and arrange a scenic tour to enjoy the extremities of one of the most beautiful and rugged spots in Wales.
